Jacy'z Hotel & Resort: an LA pool party in Gothenburg
A copper-and-glass tower in the middle of the city, a rooftop pool deck, a fire-lit pool club and shrimp tacos we still dream about. Gothenburg has never felt this much like Los Angeles.
The verdict
Upbeat, stylish and full of great food. Jacy'z brings a resort to the middle of Gothenburg, and makes a city break feel like a holiday.
You can’t miss it. In the middle of Gothenburg, a tower of glass rises inside a lattice of copper-coloured frames, catching the light from every angle. Inside is a hotel that thinks it is a resort: two pool clubs, a sky bar, a brasserie full of cakes, and a mood that is more Los Angeles than west coast of Sweden.
We stayed for one night in September.
The tower
The building is a landmark in itself. Wait until you see the view from the top.

The rooms
Our room was on the 13th floor, with a large, slanted window looking out over the city, a soft velvet sofa, and a handwritten welcome card waiting on the bed.
Our room
Muted colours, rounded furniture and black-and-white photographs on the walls.

Two pool clubs
Up on the roof is PAM’s Pool Deck & Lounge, one of the largest rooftop terraces in Gothenburg. On a summer’s day it feels like a pool party in LA, with music, cocktails and the city spread out below.
In winter, or on cooler days, head indoors to Pachanga, the pool club and spa. This is where we spent most of our time, and we loved it: curved sofas, an open fireplace, daybeds under a slanted glass roof, and greenery everywhere.
Pachanga
Don’t miss the food. We loved the shrimp tacos with sweet potato, mango and pickled chillies. Pure luxury!

Relax
When you need a break from the pool, the relaxation room has rows of soft daybeds and a crackling fire.

Food and drink
We had dinner at GOGOGAGA, the hotel’s sky bar and restaurant. The view over the city is stunning, the interior is gorgeous, and the Asian food is lovely. We shared lots of small plates, and especially loved the wontons and the papaya salad.

Down on the ground floor, Archie’s Brasserie serves brunch, and the dessert table is a sight: doughnuts, layer cakes, cupcakes and jars of sweets.

Work, if you must
Need to get some work done? The hotel has a shared office space called JayWork, where you can rent a desk for the day. That also gives you access to small meeting rooms and quiet booths, perfect for video calls and focused work. We rented it for a day for very little money, and were delighted with it.
What we loved
- Pachanga, the indoor pool club, with its fireplace and daybeds
- Shrimp tacos with sweet potato, mango and pickled chillies
- Small plates and a city view at GOGOGAGA
- The cake table at Archie’s Brasserie
- JayWork, a great place to work for a day
Worth knowing
- The outdoor rooftop pool deck is best in summer
- The mood is upbeat; this is not the place for total silence
- If you drive, prepay parking in the garage under the hotel. It is practical, and probably the cheapest option nearby
Good to know
Jacy’z is right in the centre of Gothenburg, perfect for a city break. The mood is a little upbeat, and it suits all adults, couples and groups of friends alike. Visit in the summer months if you can, when the rooftop pool deck is at its best. And whatever the season: don’t miss the pool club, and remember to order food.
